Sydney 19th - 20th March

We left the Cook Islands at midnight, flew to Auckland arriving at silly o'clock a day ahead, again took some head scratching! We spent one night in an airport hotel before an early doors flight to Sydney and had a day in the center of town...

A completely over engineered structure - or so I read. They say that they could add a full extra car level and it would still be fine, even though when it was initially built, they couldn't possibly imagine the volume of todays traffic.

We got out on to the water as soon as possible, firstly taking a ferry to Watsons Bay during the day. It was great over there as you could climb up to the top of the hill and see the ocean on the other side of the harbour. I know it seems obvious to say it, but it really is quite the most amazing thought, imagining what the first explorers must have thought when they discovered this phenomenal harbour.

Again, having seen a million photos of the opera house, nothing quite prepares you for how mind boggling the angles/architecture are - quite incredible.
Sydney Harbour Bridge - 80 years old yesterday!
We had the most painfully expensive, but luckily absolutely delicious breakfast, right on the waterfront, by the opera house - yes, i do know that this is why it was so expensive............

The Opera house at dusk...bit blurred taken from rocking ferry!

Circular Quay...

On the ferry to Darling harbour from Circular Quay - heading out for dinner

View of bridge fro the ferry at Darling harbour - we had a delicious tapas dinner in Darling Harbour - too much wine for Mummy and Daddy who are feeling a bit jaded as we write the blog now from Sydney airport! Our ferry did not seem to still be running after dinner and so we took a cab - the driver was from Afghanistan - we got chatting to him - he was lovely and when we got back to the hotel, he refused to take payment, telling Charlie that he had to promise to buy the girls an ice cream instead!

Watsons Bay

The Ocean just outside the harbour

Workers lunch!

This cheered Charlie up immensely - lots and lots of almost exact look alikes everywhere you turn!

  2. p.s. At Tania's because the Shinies are coming to lunch [Fiona & Tania's primary school teacher from Auchterless - we'll try and show them a selection of your pics]. I also have to try and call her Niven instead of Mrs. Shinie, but it's not going to be easy!
