Singapore and Nikoi Island

First journey was made on the sleeper train by Charlie, Amy and Grace (Clara and I had gone down ahead of them). Much excitement and no sleep, I gather until at least 1am!

-3 at Dunkeld about to catch the sleeper

Christmas was spent in London with Rory and Boo (brother and sister in law) and their sons Arthur and Fergus. Mum and Mike and Nicola were staying/live nearby and a very jolly time - including a fabulouHavs Christmas lunch - was had by all.
Boo, the girls and I went to watch the Nutcracker ballet on Christmas eve which was MAGICAL - very lucky girls - a lovely Christmas/Birthday/Christmas present from Uncle Rory and Aunt Boo!

Off to the ballet!

We flew to Singapore on the 28th and were met by Simon and Gampy at the airport which is possibly the most efficient one I have ever been in - we were literally through immigration in 10 minutes and then to the delight of three rather bleary girls, they could see Gampy and Simon through the glass while we waited for our bags.

Dim Sung (SP??) in Singapore

For those of you reading this who are not from the Royal School of Dunkeld, you may notice a small bear travelling with us - his name is JOFLI and he has been entrusted to Grace by the school to take him on an adventure and write a log about it!

Having dropped our bags at Emma's brothers house, we all headed up Orchard road to a wonderful Dim Sum restaurant. Orchard road is Singapore's answer to Oxford street and was decorated with what probably represented most of Christmas Direct's annual stock! Really stunning and really busy - not sure that the yellow Christmas trees will become a popular line in the UK though!

The following morning we met up with Simon and Ems at the Polo club for swimming and lunch and a snooze and we all finally got to see Freddie for the first time since the summer. He was initially a little overwhelmed by the extreme attention he was receiving from his three Scottish cousins, but he is now loving it! Simons birthday and a lovely curry for dinner that night and the following day was New Years Eve.

Simon and Ems had organised a lovely Fondue dinner at another club for around 30 of us. We all met up at Andrew and Ghillie's House (my cousin and his wife) for drinks. It is so lovely to see them here, so settled and happy and of course to see Jemima and William who were shy around us for approximately 1 minute and then had an absolute riot in the pool with their cousins.

Clara was allowed to come out with the grown ups which was a big treat, while Amy and Grace stayed at Andrew and Ghillie's house with their lovely helper Helen.

A wonderful night had by all and a truly magical way to bring in 2012.

Charlie left early the next morning to go to China and the rest of us spent the day swimming and snoozing until later in the afternoon when we all headed off to the Titanic Exhibiton - Mike you would have loved it! It has the largest number of artefacts recovered from the Titanic of any other exhibition world wide. They did it absolutely brilliantly, taking us from the opulence of the first class cabins, down to the engine rooms and finally to the sea bed with information about the recovery of artefacts - the hull itself is expected to only last another 20 years or so as it is being devoured at a rapid rate by a metal eating algae.

Supper for the children was at a Hawker centre near Andrew and Ghillie - just brilliant watching all the children shovelling down noodles and bok choi with their chopsticks, all for the sum of £1.25 per plate!! I will post a picture of this at some point but do not have it on this computer.

Carol and Peter (Charlie's parents) and the girls and I took a ferry to Nikoi Island on the 2nd and were joined by the others on the 4th. It is absolute bliss here - our homes are stilted treehouses made from wood and rushes. The girls spend the day kayaking, jetty jumping, rock climbing and spider watching!

One of the largest species of spider in the world lives here. She is as big as Charlies hand and has several husbands who are around the size of a 1 pence piece. She occasionally eats one (presumably if they fail to do the washing up or somesuch) hmmmm food for thought!!!!

Charlie took a laser dinghy out yesterday and had a ball - both with the girls and me - great fun - very windy and very fast!

Right, I will try to get some photos uploaded now - only one day left here and then back to Singapore for one night before heading down to Phuket.
